This sentiment is quite understandable, as their lineage lacks werewolf genes, unlike the Valentines and the other retired families known as true-blood hunters. These true-blood hunters possess the coveted werewolf genes that set them apart. In contrast, families like The McKnights and the current hunters within the bureau fall into the category of Lesser Hunters. These Lesser Hunters were once fully human but have acquired supernatural abilities, somewhat akin to those of the true-bloods, through the use of Talismans. While they may not match the true-bloods in strength, they still manage to get the job done.

“You’ve doomed us all.” The Hunter ignored him. Instead, he reached behind his back and slowly drew forth a weapon. A spear. Forged entirely of black metal veined with silver. Its blade pulsed with unnatural energy. The moment Aurelia saw it, agony ripped through her veins. She staggered. Lucian caught her instantly. “What is it?” The Hunter smiled. “This,” he said softly, lifting the spear, “was forged from the bones of the first royal Lycan.” His dead eyes gleamed. “It was made for one purpose.” He pointed it directly at Aurelia. “To kill your kind.”

I slashed at the next hunter rushing towards me, slitting his throat and watching as he fell, his mouth opening and closing in shock before the life died from his eyes. I used my tail to hit another hunter, sending them flying into the tree as they tried to sneak up on me. They hit it with a heavy thud and a loud howl of pain. When they got to their feet, I could see that one ankle was swollen. He tried to hobble away, towards the forest, and I intercepted him, grinning wickedly. Lucifer was feeling bloodthirsty. He hated Hunters with a passion. I let him take over, and he leaped onto the man, his jaws relentless, biting him over and over again, blood spurting all over our fur and the ground
