Then he looked away again. “It’s time I chose.”
Chris just blinked.
Lewis sat upright now, facing Chris, his expression serious.
“You told me yourself to back off, focus on what is working. And that’s Linda. So why do I have to get involved with what is trending.”
Chris paused for a second, then sighed, rubbing his forehead. “God, Lewis…” he muttered, turning to the glass of whiskey sitting warm since they came.
He downed it in one gulp and let it sting its way down.
