"Yes, Dark One." Footsteps followed. Mr. Kline appeared and sat on his chair facing me. He leaned his bearded chin on his hands over the top of the chair and watched. I pretended to be asleep. He sat for a long time without moving. I waited. Hours went by. I replayed their conversation over and over. He was working with the darkness. That meant Remi was here somewhere. This was the closest lead I had on Remi since I killed my mother.

“So? You didn’t do that! Why would you hide this?” It made no sense to me. “Get in.” With that, he got inside the car and slammed the door behind him, leaving my questions unanswered. “Isn’t the sunset pretty?” Dominic questioned out loud, his eyes looking upwards as he started in complete aw. “I’m more focused on the twenty innocent bodies that were slaughter for god’s know what reason that psychopath has and the fact that their fucking families will never know where the hell they are and will forever remain hopeful that one day they will magically appear on their doorstep when in reality they are long dead. But yeah, the sunset’s pretty.”

Her voice echoed like a haunting off note as she called someone in the darkness. "Yes, your highness." A deep voice answered from the shadows of the room. "Is there something you want me to do?" A man riding in a bull came out from the darkness. His left eye was patched and he has so many scars on his face like scratches made from sharp claws. He has a long blonde hair tied messily below his nape. "I want you to keep an eye on that prince. I feel something weird going on with him." She told the man called Jack. Her brows were furrowed as she stared blankly at the open gate.

I'm met with emptiness even though my eyes stray to the darkness in the corner of the room where the moonlight streaks fail to reach. I don't see him, however, something says he is in there, in the shadows watching me. I mean, that's the only time apex predators are out for the kill; in the dark. “Theodore!” I yell towards the door with a frantic voice. It's not helping matters that my ankle is cuffed against my wish. Oh, God! “Theodore isn't here to save you. You are with me now.” The voice is deeper, darker, promising dangers more than his words speak.

Savannah was still standing there with her swords in a defensive stance. Remember how I said it was dark as we got closer to the hospital before, well now I could barely see a foot in front of me.

Light explodes outward— consuming everything— the darkness— the void— me— everything. And the last thing I hear— before everything goes silent— is Leon screaming my name.

Kennedy simply lay down, pulled the blanket over herself, and closed her eyes in front of Tyler. He looked at the long pillow in the middle of the bed, chuckled to himself after a moment, then walked over with a grim expression and lay down stiffly like a corpse. After the light was turned off, the room plunged into darkness, and his senses were amplified to the extreme. Tyler’s breathing grew heavy, and he couldn’t fall asleep. But soon, the steady sound of breathing came from the person beside him. Tyler couldn't help but turn his head toward the direction of Kennedy in the darkness. He stared for a long time, so long that he didn't even know what he was thinking.

He had taken life with surgical precision, orchestrated deaths around him, destroyed those who resisted, yet now he suffered the ultimate consequence: the Keeper trapped within his own unyielding power. The darkness hummed, patient, eternal, reminding him: The ledger is infinite. Alignment has a price.
