I heard the click of shoes before I saw him.
Levi appeared beside me, hands deep in the pockets of a new coat. He’d changed, somewhere between the party, the chaos, and the hospital, into something more formal—black shirt, black pants, cuffs at the wrist tight as a tourniquet. His face was clean, but there was a line of dried blood down the back of his left hand. He didn’t seem to notice.
“She’ll be fine,” he said, voice flat. “The team here is the best you’ll find, even off the island.”
