Lilith froze, her hand closing around the stem of a lily as a figure materialized from the light itself. He was immense, a being of sculpted light and terrifying beauty. Seven magnificent wings the color of fresh-fallen snow unfolded from his back, each feather tipped with a faint, golden radiance. He wore armor of polished platinum that seemed fused to his torso, and his eyes held the chilling, ancient fire of a star. This was Cassiel, Archangel of the Eastern Gate, and his gaze was fixed on her. “Mortal,” his voice was not loud, but it vibrated in her bones, a resonant chord of divine power. “You trespass where your kind is forbidden.”

It seemed like Avery was extracting the souls right out of his body and it manifested in the form of a mist. The mist detached from his body completely, separating into white smoke shaped int the form of bodies which floated in the air.

His eyes gleamed, and for a brief moment, I felt like he was seeing right through me. “You know,” he began, his voice smooth and almost playful, “your name, Castiel... it means more than you think.” I raised an eyebrow, unsure of where this conversation was headed. “More than ‘shield of God’?” I asked, a little skeptical. He nodded, his eyes flashing with something like amusement. “Much more,” he said, his tone now shifting slightly. “It’s the name of an Archangel, one of the seven ever created by God. The ruler of Saturn, and imparter of divine guidance.”

“Not at the moment. She is at home and I'm at work. Did you need her? She should have her phone on her.” “No, I needed to talk to you but I didn't want her to overhear.” I take a deep breath. “Castiel was in Hamlet last night, trying to cast a spell. Thankfully his warlock wasn't strong enough. But he will just keep trying until he finds one who is. He came there because with you there it's where he is at his strongest.” “How do you know all this? Aren't you still trapped in the lamp?” Cash asks, confused.

As Cassie tugs on Levi’s sleeve again, he clears his throat, and looks at his brother, not me as he explains in a somber voice, “Cassie and I are just friends, Christian.” I see many an eyebrow rise in confusion among their new friends seated at the table and it fills me with both sadness and happiness. Levi goes on, “Cassie is Lyra’s best friend so it would be…, it would be bad and impossible for me to mess around with her.” Tears brim in my eyes but I blink them away the next second….. Then his gaze cuts over my shoulder to Caleb. Just when I think his eyes can’t darken anymore, they do. I thought he was friends with Caleb?
