I demanded, sliding the volume across the smooth wood.
The librarian blinked at me, looking a bit annoyed by my tone. "I can't just give out student information," she said.
"I don't want student names," I lied, my voice shaking slightly. "I just need to know how many people have checked this out in the last three months. It's for a project. Please."
She sighed, dragging her mouse over her pad, and scanned the barcode on the back of the cover. She stared at her monitor for a second, then frowned. She clicked a few times, her eyebrows knitting together.
