Author’s POV Rowland left the slumy area where he just had a hell of a squabble to the main parts of town where Calliope lived to deliver this new information about the Culprits at hand. Rowland got into a canoe and paddled with a boatsman to the urban area and headed home to Calliope, it was well into dusk and he hasn’t set his eyes on her as he went round the house, he assumed she must have wandered off as usual, he asked one of the maid in the mansion if she had seen Callie but she said she hasn’t set eyes on her neither so he relaxed on the sofa in the living room and waited for some hours for her to return.

The manor was white with big floor to ceiling glass windows, it looked celestial under the moonlight. I have been in WillowRidge for my whole life, but I never knew about this manor, no one could see this from the road, it is so well hidden. What a wonder. Ryder stared at him for a moment, his face unreadable. “Sit,” Ryder said. Rowland nodded and took a seat across from him. “You’re said to be the best in the country,” Ryder said calmly. “How sure are you?” Rowland blinked hard, clearly taken aback by the question. He hesitated for a second, then straightened his back. “I’m sure,” Rowland said carefully. Ryder raised an eyebrow. “Words are cheap.” Rowland nodded. “I agree.” He reached into his bag and pulled out his laptop.

Surprise flickered through Rowland’s gaze but it was short lived, then the amusement, before he got into play as well. A hand snaking around my waist, he pulled me closer, placing a kiss on my forehead, “sorry, baby. Just having discussion with family here. You’ve met the rest of my family, except for him.” Slowly, my gaze landed on him. The shock on his face was enough to make me lose character and burst into laughter, but I didn’t, “oh. Who’s he? A cousin or…?” An emotion flashed through Rowland’s eyes again as he did the introduction, “yes, he’s a cousin. William Carter and his wife, Rosy Kelot.”

I smiled politely as an older couple we’ve met before walked by, greeting us. Rowan reaches up, pinching the bridge of his nose, and shakes his head, “You’re right. I don’t know why I let someone as insignificant as Azure Blackwood get under my skin. If I play my cards right, he won’t even be a player on the board for much longer.” I don’t have the opportunity to find out what Rowan means by that statement when Ophelia and her father walk up to us, “Mr. Hillcrest,” I nodded. “It’s been a while.”

“You know why I’m here. Reid Flanagan.” At the mention of Reid’s name, something ugly flickered in Rowland’s expression. “That boy,” Rowland spat, “shouldn’t even have a company to his name. Not after what happened to his parents. Shauna and Holland should’ve been the end of that line, the last scandal to wipe them off the face of respectable society.
