But I shouldn’t be. The last thing I remember is Remy’s body going limp beneath my hands, then her… my mate, standing a few feet away, haloed in moonlight and fury. The air around her shimmered, alive with threads of gold and silver light that spread across her skin like fire desperate to be set free. Her eyes locked on mine, and for one impossible heartbeat, everything stopped. I saw it; the storm gathering inside her, power vast enough to burn the world clean. She wasn’t afraid. She was glowing with fury, our very own avenging angel. Then came the crack of gunfire, and the burn that tore straight through my chest. Death was already taking hold when the world exploded in light.

"No matter what you do, or how many tantrums you throw, you’ll always be in my shadow. My cheap replacement." It hurt, even though I kept my face neutral. I felt the burn in my throat, my hands clenched by my sides. I forced a smile, even though it mocked the very composure I fought to keep. Good. Let her taunt me. It hurt—all the more reason to drown in it. To embrace it. This pain, this anger… they were my driving force. What would I be without them? Begging for Felix’s attention? Licking my wounds like a stray dog?

There was no hint of recognition in his fiery eyes as he glared at us, only mindless rage. But of course, he didn't recognise us. He was no different from a mindless animal in this state, driven purely by instinct and fury. Dante belonged to a species of demons whose anger fuelled their strength. The angrier they got, the stronger they became, and of course, they just happened to have very short fuses to complete the whole package. A deadly combination.

In a fit of rage, my strength spiraled out of control, and I crushed the smartphone in my grasp, severing the connection with Linda. "Damn!" The audacity of his presumption enraged her beyond measure. Fury coursed her veins, fueled by a mixture of anger, hurt, and betrayal. What I want doesn't matter at the end of the day. He reared back, leaning off me as though I'd slapped him. "You think because I've taken you, that it doesn't matter?" I tilted my head to look up at him questioningly. "Would you rather every wolf in the pack had you? That you were marked by one such as Fury?" Fury was a terrifying wolf. He had scars and was known for sudden outbursts of violent temper. He was unpredictable and known to be brutal. Same as Draven is.

Anger heated my blood as rage roared through my mind. “Where’s Freya?” I growled as I fought back the chaos raging inside of me. “She’s preoccupied right now, but don’t worry, I will send her back in one piece.” “WHERE IS FREYA?” I ground out through clenched teeth, but I didn’t get a reply. I glanced back at the phone and saw the call had ended. “FUCK!” I screamed as fury seared through me. My hand curled up into a fist as everything around me began to blur into one hazy, fury-filled mist. I could feel my pulse beating beneath my skin. I reached forward, punching the newly built wall, but that didn’t settle the frenzy rushing throughout my body.

"I am just looking out for you." "Then stop! I can look out for myself, Nolan. I am grown. I am capable. Stop looking at me as if I am a damsel that needs saving all the time. It is wearing fucking thin." I growled back and flung myself off of the couch. Fury entered his eyes then. They glowed their beautiful blue. His wolf was so close I could almost touch him. That's where all our anger came from. From our wolves who wanted something whilst everyone else denied it.
