The ocean sparkled outside. Sunlight warmed the floor. God. Everything calm. Fair. Meanwhile Lily sat nearby drawing. Reasonable honestly. Or attempting to. Most of her attention remained fixed on Peanut. God. Naturally. Fair. Then it happened. Reasonable. Lily leaned closer to show one of her drawings. God. A masterpiece. Fair. Apparently a dolphin. Reasonable. Though it looked suspiciously like a potato. God. Then Peanut saw her. Fair. Immediately. Reasonable. Tiny eyes locked onto Lily.

“I’M SEVEN YEARS OLD AND INVINCIBLE.” Papa grunted. “Six. You’re six.” “I ROUND UP.” She flung out her arms dramatically, then mimed… something. “An eagle?” Sari guessed. “Nope!” Lily yelled. Brinn squinted. “A flying spaghetti monster?” Lily cackled. “WRONG TWICE!” Aya tilted her head. “A flying… alpha?” “Ding ding ding!” Lily shouted, leaping off Papa’s shoulders with a roll that ended in her skirt flipping over her head.

“Your dad will be home any minute and we want to make sure you're all dressed up.” “I get to be a pirate today!” Maggie said, as Lily helped her to climb the ladder out of the pool. Wyatt's attention went back to Lily. He watched as she took a few steps onto the ladder in order to assist Maggie. Lily's lower half broke the surface of the water, giving him an even better view of her backside. It's not even fair, he thought, shaking his head. She's perfect.

“Absolutely, sweetheart. Let’s see what kind of adventure we’re going on today.” As Desi started reading, Lily curled up closer, her small hand clutching Desi’s fingers. Every few pages, Lily would laugh, her giggles filling the room. Desi felt her heart swell each time, grateful for these moments of happiness and healing. When the story ended, Lily looked up with a thoughtful expression. “Dr. Desi, do you think there’s a place like that?” she asked, pointing to an illustration of a magical garden. “I think so,” Desi replied, nodding. “Maybe not with fairies or talking animals, but I believe there are beautiful places out there waiting to be discovered.”

"Come on, have some crackers." Lily ran over happily and climbed onto a chair next to me. "Kael used to be a musician," I told her. "A really good one." "Really?" Lily's eyes sparkled. "Can you play a song for me?" Kael looked at her, then at me. "There's no piano here." "That's okay," Lily held out her small hand. "I can make one out of water." A drop of water appeared in her palm. It shifted and stretched in the air, eventually forming an exquisite miniature piano.

"Papa will regret not paying for my picnic ticket." James blinked softly. The dream that had always filled his head was right there in front of him. Lily sat there, under the shade of a tree on a wide carpet. On the right side were several plates filled with various snacks and glasses filled with cold syrup. Books were scattered about. Cheryl's drawing tools were even worse. It's messy but really, that's exactly what James wants. The warmth of a whole family. "Let's make a deal, Princess. Papa pays three times as much."

Her blonde ponytail bounced as she turned to Lily, curiosity already lighting up her face. “What did you do yesterday?” Ella asked, leaning in close. Lily’s face lit up. “I went to the zoo!” she exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement. Ella’s eyes widened. “The zoo?” “Yeah! Mommy, Daddy, me, and Sparkles,” Lily said proudly, holding up her stuffed dragon. “We saw lions, elephants, monkeys, everything!” Ella gasped. “Did you see a tiger?” Lily shook her head. “No tigers, but the lions were huge! There was one with a big, golden mane. He looked like a king.”

She was still awake when the grey began at the windows. George was asleep. She got up quietly. She went to the kitchen and put the kettle on. She heard a door. Lily appeared in the hallway in her pyjamas with Max behind her. She said: I smelled the kettle. Kristine said: do you want tea. Lily said: I don't really like tea. Do you have hot chocolate. Kristine looked in the cupboard. She said: I have cocoa powder and milk. Lily said: that's basically the same thing.

“Will your powers work on me after the potion is taken from me?” “I don’t know about that but a few powers of mine work on you despite you having the potion,” he informed her. She arched an eyebrow. “Really? Which one?” “I can hypnotize you,” he replied, his voice being deeper than before, which sounded sexy to Becca. Her eyes pierced through his as she muttered, “Then hypnotize me.” “You asked for it,” he said and closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes, it was red. “Jump from this tree.” As soon as he commanded her, Becca jumped from the tree.
