​I put the blunt handle of my knife into Elias's hand, forcing him to press the ceremonial iron against the rough, cold silver vein. ​"The Claiming was supposed to fuse me with Kael’s Alpha will," I whispered, my voice thick with intensity. "But it didn't. It fused my True Will—Protect Elias—with the Thorn’s magic. I can’t channel the kill-energy without Kael’s Alpha command, but I can prime the weapon." ​I placed my hands on either side of Elias’s head, forcing him to look at me, his eyes wide and bright in the gloom.

I could feel him looking at me the way I could feel most things about him now, through the incomplete bond, a peripheral awareness that had no off switch. That was not supposed to work, Dassa said from behind us. Her voice was not quite steady. I looked down at the knife. The marks had settled back into their original configuration. Kaden swung both of his hands simultaneously, his claws coming from both sides toward Wilbur. Wilbur leaped into the air, while Kaden swung his claws again. Wilbur brandished his Magic Dragon Blade in response, cleaving at Kaden's claw. The black blade energy struck Kaden and instantly severed his claw. Kaden was unwilling to accept defeat. He swung his remaining left claw at Wilbur, only to have it severed by another attack. Horst was stunned when he saw that. He said, "It's over. Kaden is bound to lose. Anyone who can sever Kaden's claws with a single sword strike must possess over three thousand years of cultivation."

Just focus. She studied the rhythm of the blades, her eyes darting between the gaps. When the timing felt right, she darted forward, ducking under the first blade and leaping over the second. Her heart thundered as the third blade came dangerously close, snagging the edge of her sleeve. With a final burst of energy, she rolled under the last blade and emerged on the other side, her knees trembling.

The eerie silence weighed heavy on my chest as I stepped closer to the ancient tomb. Every instinct screamed at me to stop, to turn back before it was too late, but I couldn’t. We were too deep in now, and the fate of Silverclaw hung in the balance. I could feel the dark energy pulsing through the air, growing stronger the closer I got to the crumbling stone. “This is it,” Lysandra whispered, her eyes locked on the tomb. “The third key.”

Eden lunges. The dagger bites. The Alpha laughs. *"You think this is a blade? It's a *key*."* The chamber collapses. The Veil tears. “Why are you giving this to me?” “If you see whatever is chasing us, stab it.” “Alright.” We kept running. We turned another corner and bumped into Sarah, Brad, and Katie “How are we going to get out of here?” Sarah asked. “We aren’t,” Katie said. “Don’t think that way,” I said. “Why not we have been in this maze forever,” Katie said. “We should follow the sun,” I said. “What good will that do?” Brad asked. The ground started shaking. “It will keep whatever that is away from us. Here.” I handed each of them a knife. I kept my two daggers strapped to my arm and my butterfly knife in my pocket.

Because if he doesn't, I would get blamed for all of it. I stood on my feet and opened the drawer in search of my cell phone just to remember that it was in the car. I slipped into my slippers and rushed downstairs careful not to hit my swollen palm on anything. When I reached the first living room, I remembered the key. The car key. Oh shit. The car key. I rushed back upstairs and opened the door to the room. I rummaged through the nightstand looking for the key to the Lamborghini. Jeez, there are so many keys. How was I going to know the one which suits the car?
