Ember The room changes when I blink. One moment I’m standing at the foot of the obsidian throne, fire humming beneath my skin. The next, I’m somewhere else entirely. A garden, black roses curl around iron trellises, their petals veined with silver. Moonlight pools across still water. The air smells like smoke and night-blooming flowers. There is danger in it’s beauty, in the way a venomous snake is beautiful.

Who all greeted me with so much excitement and others kept seeing me as Landon’s girlfriend, which I had to deny so many times that I’m just a friend. “You look really cute.” One of them, Blake commented. He had red hair, a few piercings on his ears and nose, and he was quite tall and muscular. Red beautiful eyes and if I didn’t know him, I would say he was quite a celebrity. He also had tattoos all over his torso except for the visible areas. “Thanks.” I took a step back, and he kept coming forward. “Blake, she is off limits.” Another one named Jeremy came in with a bright smile.

After that, he'd stopped eating strawberries altogether. But today… today, he felt like breaking the rules a bit. "I'll take this one then, thanks!" he said while holding up the strawberry crepe. Rosalind exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper, but infectious in its excitement. She purchased a bouquet of sun-kissed daisies and velvety red roses, their delicate petals swaying gently in the breeze.

Inside them were dried leaves, powders, and liquids in colors I had never seen before, deep blues, strange golds, and a red so dark it was almost black. "Come in. Sit," Ember said, her voice calm but firm, as though she expected no hesitation. "I just made some green tea, would you like some?" She added before we refused. "It is hot and was made for you two. Do not waste my green tea." "We would love some," I smiled.

At my engagement party, my fiancé and my parents had prepared a table filled with mystery boxes. Ember's POV When I woke, the world was wet stone and cold iron. My arms were stretched above my head, chains biting into my wrists until my skin burned. The air shimmered faint blue, alive with whispers that hummed against my bones. Every breath I took tasted like metal and ash. My disguise was gone....no bandages, no cloak, no voice to hide behind. Just me. Ember. And the truth I’d spent months burying.

I said, putting back the top of the box. “She will be happy” Emma gave me a huge grin. “Actually,” she added shyly, the smile fading from her face. “I wanted to give you something you may want to wear too,” she said, reaching into her pocket. “Oh, Emma, you don’t have to…” “Just open it” she put the little box in my palm. So I sat down and opened the box. It was a pair of earrings, small and delicate, with little blue stones in them. They were beautiful.

Mia fiddled with the files she was holding before bringing out a card "This came in when you were out to have lunch" Elle raised an eyebrow at the card. Looking at it, it looked like an invitation card from wealthy personnel who could be hosting a party. As a well-known businesswoman, Elle received different types of invitations every time.
