Why me?’ I said to myself as I felt tears pool in my eyes.

Nothing about me screamed pregnant. And yet— “The baby is stable,” the doctor continued. “Your fainting wasn’t caused by the pregnancy itself. It was stress, exhaustion, and vitamin deficiency. But the pregnancy is there.” My throat tightened. A baby. I didn’t know how long I sat there staring at the edge of her desk, replaying everything in my head. The passing out. The exhaustion. The emotions that felt too big for my body lately. It all rearranged itself into something terrifyingly logical.

Chapter 20 Ana's POV Silence stretched between us after Marcus’s confession. His words hung in the air, cold and unwavering. "I never want to have one." I gripped the wine glass tighter, my heartbeat pounding in my ears. My free hand instinctively brushed over my stomach—over the tiny life growing inside me. He had no idea. She was still weak and was still on a sedative, so this might be the best chance to slowly tell her the most important things that mattered at the moment. Trixie held Trisha's hand and squeezed it gently. "Sweetie…" Trixie tried to smile as she called out to the girl still lying on the patient's bed. "Can I tell you about Elaine a little later?
