A deep vibration, subtle at first, like a far-off drum. I tensed. "Move," I said. "Now." But it was too late. The ground exploded just behind us. A serpent the size of a small house burst from the mud, its scales slick and black, its mouth lined with curved, blood-stained fangs. "Anaconda!" Lotanni shrieked, stumbling back. No — not an anaconda. Not anymore. This thing was a mutation. The monster’s body writhed like it was stitched from several beasts, its head elongated, its mouth splitting wider than anything natural.

A mutt is no mate for a true werewolf. My heart started aching again. Not only had a simple accident caused a landslide of changes in just a day, but nothing really great has happened because of it. Sure, I tamed the King for a few hours, but what did that get me? A haircut and rejection, though at least some courage.

"We're gonna go," Lills mumbled, getting to her feet. I nodded, too lost for words to find the one's that would make her stay. Scorchers were dangerous, a militia that stood outside the rules and laws the rest of us lived by. They were those who'd committed their lives to the destruction of every non human creature beyond the borders of the Diarna, the furthest mining town in the south. They married their work and bred for numbers. They were smart, strong and loyal to a fault and would rather see our entire world blaze

After some minutes one of them approached me. "Excuse me, I'm Luna Morgan from Blue Moon pack, is it true that you're not a Lycan?" She asked, looking at me with taunting eyes. She knew the answer but she just wanted me to say it. She wasn't the ringleader, I could tell she was nervous but she tried to cover it up with overconfidence. I smiled and took a slow sip of my wine, making sure to waste time then I stood slowly. I could see her right eye start to twitch slightly.

“Hang in there. I’m here now.” Adverting my eyes back to the beast who managed to get back on its feet. It’s a Lykoi, a mutated hybrid at that. Of course this isn’t going to be to easy now is it. I stand my ground hiding my fear as the large beast paces back and forth sizing me up.

"Shut up you green lizard!" Thinking about what I just said, it didn't sound like a cut down. Cadma snickers, "Isn't it normal for a lizard to be green? Mutt breath! Besides, I am a Dragon, not a lizard!"
