I watched my body growing more transparent until we stopped beside a jagged reef.
"Here?" she asked.
I nodded.
"Alright. Here it is."
Jude uncorked the vial, poured the meager ashes into her palm, and flung them into the sea.
Her voice rang out over the waves, "Go, Gordon. You're free now."
A breeze rose, carrying me into the ocean's depths.
She and I exchanged a final smile.
At last, I was free.
"Jude!"
A furious voice shattered the moment.
Eliza stumbled toward us, her eyes swollen red.
