From that letter, from that name, from the ghost of bloodlines past clawing up my spine.
I followed the east wall path past midnight, letting the cool wind bite into my skin. Hawthorne House loomed behind me, stoic and silent, its magic humming low like a watchful heartbeat. Campus patrol wasn’t technically required for senior wolves this semester, but I volunteered anyway. It was easier to act busy than be left alone with my thoughts.
I didn’t expect anyone else out this late. And I definitely didn’t expect her.
