I responded, my voice low as it rang with pain, "London, I beg you please calm down and talk to me, whatever it is I'm sure we can sort it out," he said, his voice pleading as he spoke,

The voice on the other end was disapproving. I bolted upright, all traces of sleep long gone. It was four thirty am, way too early to be dealing with my family.

I heart skipped a beat. I answered cautiously. "Hello?" A little silence stretched, long enough to make my stomach drop, old fears whispering names from my past. Past as in, London . Then background noise filtered through: faint chatter, clinking glasses, soft music. I looked at the screen and almost laughed at myself. This wasn't no London number. "Huh, hello?" I said again. "Hey, Nurse Isabella Hartley? We call you Bella?" A woman's voice, warm, slightly accented.

She deleted what she had written and tried again. Joe, I’m not sure what’s going on. I tried to call you. You didn’t pick up. Your stupid voice mail message says that you’d call me back. Hahaha!
