“I saw something! Someone walked behind you, Lisa! A shadow! A—”
“Oh crap,” I muttered, spinning. Sure enough, Heri had just padded past behind me, completely unbothered, clutching some small book to her chest.
I scrambled. “Uh—okay, so, um, funny story, don’t scream—”
“WHO. WAS. THAT?!” they chorused, pitch climbing.
“That was—ahhh—okay, okay, don’t freak, breathe—” I tried to wave at Heri to come back, but she just tilted her head like a cat and kept walking until she was out of frame again. “That was Heri.”
