“Javier has told me so much about you.”
“All of it untrue, probably,” I said.
She turned to her husband, a big bear of a guy, tall and broad-shouldered with a scruffy beard. “This is Louis.”
“With an O,” he said, as he shook my hand.
“Louis is a second generation American,” Javier said. “He always wants people to know that his name isn’t Luis. Which my parents insist on calling him.”
I knew from what Javier had told me that Louis was of Cuban and Spanish descent, much more Americanized than his in-laws, and his Spanish was almost as rough as mine. He worked in logistics for a big company in Doral, out by the airport.
