You’re a fan of Catherine Bybee?” I smile, genuinely impressed as I open the ledger. “It’s refreshing to see a teenager with such classic taste. Most girls your age are glued to their phones, but here you are, diving into a good romance.”

she says, excited. “What do you have me reading,” I say, stunned. I mean after the times I’ve had with both Parker and Rafe nothing should shock me. But she’s 14! They actually put this stuff in books?? At 14 I was nowhere close to having extremely intimate thoughts about males! “I told you! It's called, “Love Under The Moon.” I’ve read it like four times, soo soo good,” she swoons. I gape at her, not sure what to think.

She rattled on about how she loves to read books especially love stories and how happy she’s to get a new friend who happens to share the same hobby with her. I don’t fancy love stories because I can easily predict what’s gonna happen next like who wouldn’t? Besides, it’s kind of boring to read the same plot repeatedly; boy meeting the girl, girl meeting the boy, starting from simple infatuation to attraction, then one of’em will confess, and BAM! They start dating and blah blah blah. It’s predictable. I’d rather read genres like adventure, action, crime, thriller, fantasy, etc., where things’re not much predictable plus you’ve to use your brain. At least you can learn something new. “Here w

I watched her sit at a table by the window, alone, spreading textbooks across the surface like she was building a fortress. She stared at the same page for ten minutes without turning it. I wanted to sit across from her, take her hand and tell her everything. I wanted to explain about my father and the scholarship and the choice I had to make. I wanted to beg her to understand. But I couldn't. Because if I told her, she would try to fix it. She would offer to give up the scholarship, to fight my father, to do something reckless and noble, which was exactly why I fell in love with her.

After that, she could dispose of them both. But something gnawed at her. She was actually starting to like this kid. And that bothered her more than anything else. She couldn’t remember liking a human in hundreds of years. Much less a stupid teenager. But, she had to admit, there was something about him. Some kind of kindred spirit, something she recognized. Even at his young age, she could tell he had been kicked around. He had a quality of recklessness, of not caring about the world, of knowing his days were numbered, of being ready to go out in style. And she liked that. It reminded her of an affair she’d had once with a young prince in Bulgaria, in the 1300s…
