The choices we make

The choices we make

“I have always wondered if Ken got tricked into buying something else.” “It really contains love poems. Would you like me to read a couple of them?” Mary asked. “Would you?” Anna asked with eyes full of wonder. “It would be my pleasure,” Mary said and turned to the first poem in the book. “A whisper of the heart,” she read the title. “In the darkness of the night, Even as the stars have abandoned us, Even as the moon hides it face, You can still hear it, A faint whisper, A whisper that grows stronger With every beat of my heart.

Love and Lament

Love and Lament

“These are a few of my favourite books and some cookies. My mom used to read these out every day so I could sleep. Little Anne always gets bored and cries at night. You can read them out for her. They are very interesting stories.” “Oh, honey,” Linda said. “That’s so thoughtful of you. Thank you so much, baby.” I smiled looking at the baby in her arms. Honestly, I’m giving them because Brett loved those books but always declined to borrow them. I have had thoughts on giving him these but he would never accept. So, if I gave them to Linda, at least then he would borrow from her. And the cookies! His favourite ones! I am sure he’d love having them during his flight journey.

Satan: Her Worst Nightmare

Satan: Her Worst Nightmare

Brianna suddenly remembered poetry she once had read in a book: O my Luve is like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June; O my Luve is like the melody That’s sweetly played in tune. So fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in love am I; And I will love thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun; I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only love! And fare thee weel awhile! And I will come again, my love,

Love and Lust (Hamartia Trilogy Book 2)

Love and Lust (Hamartia Trilogy Book 2)

So he lit it and blew the smoke away from the room and towards the cold air of the night. "They won't forget about it," I answered him. "But it'll let them think of something else. The wedding of the century. Honeymoon. Kids. They have our entire future to plan." I took my robe from the foot of the bed and joined Lucas on the balcony. For a moment, there was silence. Only the crickets made the sound from the garden below. I leaned on the flat railings and looked up at the stupid stars twinkling above us, playing with the glass. Lucas did the same, blowing out a cloud of smoke away from my face. I knew that Lucas was thinking about his response and he was so tensed his jaw was twitching.

Things You Need

Things You Need

He returned his attention to the bookshelf at the rear of his office, the one he’d been browsing when he’d first heard the strange sounds outside, only being made by the cats, after all. The top shelf held purely “literary works.” Poetry collections of Blake, Yeats, Robert Frost, and Shakespeare. Prose collections of Zora Neal Hurston, Hemingway, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Flannery O’Connor, and folktales collected by the Brothers Grimm. Novels, from The Man in the Iron Mask to Madame Bovary, to Villette and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, to A Passage to India by E. M. Forster.

Married to my Arrogant Sponsor

Married to my Arrogant Sponsor

The fireplace crackled softly, casting amber light across the lakehouse living room. Shadows danced across the walls as the wind outside whispered through the trees. Inside, time felt suspended. Ava sat cross-legged on the thick rug, the warmth of the fire brushing her bare arms. She was reading from a dog eared poetry collection she’d found tucked between old novels on a high shelf. The spine was cracked. The pages smelled like memories. The poems weren’t curated or famous just raw, honest words scrawled by someone who must’ve loved too deeply.

Kiss me

Kiss me

Part of me wants to flee this exchange, the other feels strangely drawn to his presence. — Does she have a favorite genre? Poetry? Old novels? He frowns slightly. — She loved poetry, once… before the illness stole a bit of herself from her. But I think she would appreciate a book that reminds her of her youth. Something that makes her feel like she still exists. These words strike me unexpectedly. I understand this pain, this need to cling to what remains. — I might have what you need… follow me. I lead him to the back shelves, where the books no one comes looking for anymore lie dormant. I pull out a bound collection of Ronsard, with a worn leather cover, gilt-edged pages.

Tuberose

Tuberose

Forever bound by Tuberose's art, In the Fragrance of Love, we'll never depart. As I finish reciting the poem, my heart is filled with a profound sense of connection and appreciation for the words that have touched my soul. At this moment, I realize the power of Tuberose's poetry to capture the essence of love and evoke emotions that transcend time and space. With the book held close to my heart, I continue to delve into its pages, immersing myself in the fragrant world of love that Tuberose has created.

Jane Chunli
Nice story so far. Keep it up author but I think author should improve in her tenses and grammar. The story is nice one, I like the way she gave glimpses of what would happen in the story in the future. Nice book and story line author, keep it up. But Michael seemed pompous for my liking.

The story is great, the way you portrayed how your closed one (best friend ) can turn into a foe with time, how in one second everything changes and it hurts when you know you are right but no one trusts you. Well done btw, good luck

Sweet Situation: Escape from Love to You

Sweet Situation: Escape from Love to You

The books were mostly collections of poetry, with a powerful presence of works by William Shakespeare. “The Tempest,” she murmured, excitement evident in her voice. It brought back memories of her school days when she had wanted to borrow the book from the library, only to find it unavailable. She had never bought it herself, worrying about the burden of moving with too many belongings during her frequent relocations. Her fingers hovered over the spines of the books, dabbing them but refraining from pulling any off the shelf. “Let it go, Chom,” Ladapha sighed to herself, attempting to shake off her longing. She turned to leave but startled with a soft gasp, “Oh!”
