Chapter 3 Lucian's POV I let out a deep sigh after going through the contents of the letter in my hand. “How was the meeting with the other Alpha and the Council Elders?” I asked my Beta and best friend Freya, who looked at me and gave out a tired sigh of her own.

Lucian stepped closer. "You taught me choice." "I regret it." "You taught me love." "I regret it." "You taught me freedom." "I regret it." Lucian's eyes filled with tears. "Then what do you want?" Evelyn answered: "Nothing." She raised her hand. Lucian disappeared. The memory shattered. Evelyn fell to her knees. "No." Hope knelt beside her. "Evelyn." "I remember." "What?" "I killed him." I gasped at the image before me. It was far more detailed than the previous drawings, showing real artistic skill, but what it depicted...

“No. Truth will.” Lucian stood nearby. Silent. Watching. Damon turned toward him sharply. “Say something.” Lucian’s jaw tightened, but he did not speak. The silence was worse than denial. Damon’s voice dropped lower. “Tell him he is wrong.” Lucian finally looked up. But the look in his eyes held something Damon had never seen before. Regret. Damon felt the ground shift beneath him. “You knew?” he asked quietly. Lucian did not answer immediately. Then he said softly, “I learned recently.”

“I kept apologizing for something that was never even true.” Lucian stared at me in silence. Then finally— very quietly— “I know.” There was so much regret in those two words that I could barely breathe. I looked at him again. And suddenly memories started hitting me one after another. The fertility clinic. The drive home afterward. Me crying quietly in our bedroom while Lucian sat in silence. Me begging him to say something. Anything. Anything at all. “You left me alone,” I whispered. Lucian looked like I had physically struck him.

The sound of her laugh reached him faintly a sound he hadn't heard in years. For a brief moment, his heart eased. But then he looked back at the folder on his desk, at Mirana's face frozen in a smile too familiar, too deceptive. His expression hardened again. "They took one life from me," Lucian murmured to himself. I begged, tears slipping down my cheek. Lucian remained motionless, he blinked his eyes repeatedly as though he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His eyes flickered with conflict. “I lost my father today. I lost my child today. And Cassandra... she might never wake up," the words tasted like poison on my tongue. "I already hate myself for what happened to our baby. Please, Lucian... don't make me stand outside this room while I lose Vivienne too." For a moment, Lucian looked away. His fists tightened, then loosened, and then tightened again. I could see the battle happening inside him.
