Luigi replied with a half sly smile, his wrinkled face looking more younger. Giovanni stared at his host in contemplation. He knew he wasn't bluffing. Luigi de Pinto was a man of his word. He was a man of action too. He singlehandedly controlled most of the major trades in the northern region. Striking a deal with him would be a good bargain. “I want to hear everything. What is the price?” A smile spread on Luigi's face as he stared at his visitor. He turned a little quantity of whiskey from the bottle to his glass and after taking a sip, he spoke out. “An alliance. You have to marry my daughter.”

It was annoying at times, but it was easy to take advantage of it sometimes. Not expecting it, Luigi quickly took a step back. I chuckled quietly, taking another step forward, smiling to myself when Luigi stood firmly where he was. I stopped when both our toes were touching. Other men were also working out around us, but I didn't pay much attention to them as I went on with my plan. I looked up at Luigi, batting my lashes as I pouted at him. "Please." As expected, his eyes dropped to my breasts and he swallowed. His loyalty to his boss must've been strong though, because he averted his eyes, taking a step back. "I can't go against Alessandro's orders."

“But if you want to stay alive, you have no choice.” “That still doesn’t answer everything.” I crossed my arms, narrowing my eyes. “What are you really, Luigi?” My voice was firm, challenging. “I demand answers. You’re not just a billionaire owner of a publishing company.” He watched me for a moment, then let out a long sigh. “You’re right.” His gaze darkened even more. “I’m not just a businessman. That’s just a façade.” A chill ran down my spine. “I’m Luigi Romano, the head of the most powerful crime organization in New York.”

I had a memory to reclaim and two men to interrogate. I crouched low at the tenth stair, just high enough to see without being seen. The wood creaked if I leaned forward too much, so I froze, holding my breath. Below, Leonardo was sprawled across the couch, flipping through a comic book like he didn't just turn my brain inside out. Luigi stood near the armchair, arms crossed, looking every bit the moral compass that doesn't actually point north. "Bro, do me a huge favor for a while and keep playing the role of Bonnie's boyfriend," Leo said, grin wide and careless.

The man who inflicted so much pain on me didn’t deserve any more of my time. I drew the gun from its holster, steadying my aim. Luigi's eyes widened as he realized what was about to happen. "You’re going to kill me?" he laughed. "Because I sent your whore of a wife a gift? Did you like it? It looked like those three bastards! I would have taken care of your three bastards the same way, but you found me!"

Luigi’s voice was thick with frustration, as if he was trying to break through my defensive walls. “What shipments? What are you talking about?” He was not making any sense. “Drugs. Heroin, to be exact.” Luigi’s words hung in the air like a death sentence. Drugs? “He’s a murderer, Summer. If you aren’t careful, you’ll get caught in the crossfire.” “Stop,” I whispered. “Take your goddamn blinders off, Summer! He’s the mafia don. The most powerful and influential boss in Chicago!” Luigi yelled. “Stop,” I repeated, my voice shaking.

He didn't move even when everyone is still staring at him, his eyes scanning everything around him, everything that moves around him, and when his eyes were directed toward where I stood my body trembled slightly. After he left, I waited for at least another half an hour before I decided to call a cab. • • • "Fuck!" A stack of paper come flying around the room as I stood near the door watching Luigi letting out his rage. His room is the object of his anger, all his stuff comes tumbling down all over his floor, and paper is everywhere being thrown. he says and I grin at the simple rhythm. "I'm not very hungry," I admit, and he sighs. "I understand how you must be feeling. I haven't met my mate yet, but I get it. Please just try a few bites," Luigi says before holding up a beautifully charred fish with herbs sticking out of its open stomach.

“That I also know, but one thing you need to know about me, Miss Gio is that I make the roads I drive on and I know that people need a little push to give you exactly what you want.” Zaverio snapped his fingers and two men dragged an unconscious Luigi into the room and dumped him in front of me. Zaverio placed a gun to his temple and ordered one of his men to wake him up. I looked away when one of his fingers was snapped backwards, he screamed and jerked awake but was held down. His wide eyes caught mine and I felt my control slip. Luigi was a great man who had been my sister’s rock for years, if anything happened to him, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.
