When we have eaten, I stand and say, “Lea needs a run, Amy. Is Ava up for it?” ”Goddess, yes, she has not stopped talking about Lea since we arrived.” We walk to the edge of the forest behind Marian's house and shift Lea races through the trees, Ava close behind her. I know where Lea is going, to the stream where I first saw Nathan. Jack's eyes bore an uncanny resemblance to someone from Lyle's past, and the memory that surfaced was not a pleasant one. He rubbed his temple as if to physically push the thought away.
