The soft clinking of utensils and hushed murmurs of other diners filled the air, but to Jessica, the silence between them was the loudest thing in the room. Lynne, on the other hand, seemed completely at ease, as if this was just another casual dinner. She sliced through her steak, took a bite, and then looked up with a smile. “I hope you don’t mind me inviting you here,” Lynne said. “It’s been so long since I came here.
