My hand groped the bed, searching for my phone. I squinted against the screen's brightness as I unlocked it, opening the voice messages. My finger hovered over the play button as my heart raced, unsure of what I would hear. With a shaking hand, I tapped play. Ryan's voice filled the room, hard and fast, sounding on the verge of insanity. My lips trembled as I pressed the phone further away, trying to distance myself from the fear and pain his voice evoked.
