Each sister picked up one of the men before looking at each other and smiling. “What are they doing?” Koa mumbled. “Evil genius plan?” Jax’s lycan questioned. “You guys like dragon blood?” Maggie asked the four figures now standing at their feet.

She stared me down as she addressed Heleos, looking unimpressed. “Ideally, no one will die when we take the council back, but yes, I will be helping, and so will Willow.” Before he could elaborate, Magda stood, picking up a silver hat pin from the table next to her chair. She approached each of the vampri, aside from Heleos, and stuck her finger, dispensing a single drop of blood onto each tongue. Gradually, understanding washed over each of their faces.

That makes life harder than it seems. You would be paranoid about anyone who tries to get closer to you. How was it even possible for those poor creatures to fall in love, to socialize while knowing that anyone who tries physically or emotionally to get near you could only be trying to harm you?

Some are shared willingly.” His gaze lingered on me. “You carry the Moon’s mark, girl. The same one that once belonged to my mate. Tell me… has it burned yet?”

My agony only made his pack more excited, like they were watching a funny sitcom. Magnus crouched down to his warriors, pouring my blood on their wounds, and instantly they healed up. The pack gasped in shock, while Magnus turned to look at me, almost amazed. If my blood still had its healing powers, why wasn't I healing? Why was I still stuck with these wounds? My thoughts were cut short because Magnus stabbed me again and fetched more of my blood. He poured it on his own wounds, and just like his warriors, he healed instantly. A sinister smile spread across his face.

She settled her bag on the floor, brought out white chalks mixed with grey herbs while conducting her blood magic. “I will need a drop of blood from either of their Majesties,” she said, drawing a small blade from her side. “Take mine,” I responded, stretching out my hand towards her. “Do everything in your power to save her.” The knife sliced through my palm, blood trickling down as she took a vial and fetched it, sprinkling it all over Maera's body, reciting ancient words I couldn't understand, most of which meant nothing. Seconds after Largatha was done, Maera took a deep breath, releasing the moonstone from her hands.

I watched as Alice turned to Maggie, her sharp eyes brimming with something akin to approval. "You know, even though you aren't eighteen yet, I have to admit, I'm impressed," she said, her voice steady but laced with a rare warmth. "The way you wield your magic, the precision, the control... it's remarkable. No doubt it comes from your fae blood. It’s in your nature to command it." She crossed her arms, as if sizing Maggie up once more, but this time, there was no skepticism, only recognition.
