It moved forward, wanting to attack again, and then I heard Maggie scream. “No!” Before I could blink, she was already between us, her arms spread wide to protect me from the beast. I watched her belly glow, this time like a glyph circle. The ground cracked, and the warden froze. Frozen like it was being attacked by something unseen, the beast dissolved into black smoke, getting absorbed by the runes. I was bleeding, losing consciousness, but my half-opened eyes could see Maggie walking over to the gates again, this time, using the mark on her side to find the sigil.

"My perspective. I think you'll understand why we both long for Dane so much then." Mag pierced my finger, and as I felt the initial sting, I closed my eyes, ready to see the world through his. I was instantly overwhelmed when I opened my eyes in Mag's mental space. It was cluttered, a chaotic mess that mirrored his tangled thoughts and emotions. The intensity hit me like a tidal wave. The disarray was overwhelming, making it hard to focus. Everywhere I looked, there were piles of memories, some darkness and malice, others more mundane. Lilith leaned in. “And what of Aria?” Magnus smiled, sharp as a blade. “She’ll be right where we want her.” He raised his hand. The scroll caught fire. The flames danced upward— And in them, I saw my face. My eyes wide. My lips parted in shock. Watching the world burn. I gasped and fell backward, water spilling from my mouth. My vision swam.

We watched as the witches started their trek across the plains. Magnus and Ares approached us then. "We are all set to depart," Magnus said gruffly. Tor gripped Magnus by the arm. "Thank you." Then he turned to Ares and gave him a powerful hug. "Without your help…" Tor started, looking between the two of them shaking his head. Ares put up his hand. "Never be afraid to come knocking if there is some a*s to kick," Ares said with a laugh. Tor nodded with a smile. "Thanks again."

Strange creatures, magi. "Well?" I ask after several moments of her turning my arm over and tracing over the scars. "I don't think there's much I can do. The damage looks done. Magi weapons. . . They're a harsh thing, my dear." I nod, my hopes deflating. She seems to see this, catching my eyes. "But I will try, okay?" I nod. She holds out her palm, a ball of glowing light forming in her palm. My eyes widen as the ball continues to grow. "This might sting." She lifts her hand up, pressing it to my shoulder. I gasp, biting my lip. Sting is an understatement.
