When the car stopped at the entrance of the Winchester's residence, Hannah was still a little tipsy. The light in the living room was still on. Darren was still sitting on the sofa, looking at documents. He looked over when he heard the sound of the door opening. "Hannah, you're back?" He stood up and walked briskly to her side. Then. he said in a gentle voice, "Are you tired? Do you want to drink some water?"

_____ After three days of staying up till midnight, staring at my clock and waiting for a sign from the Crimson Circle, it finally came. At exactly 12:00am, the entire Caldwell residence went pitch black. The power was completely out. I’d been in blackouts before, too many to count, but I could feel that this was different. This wasn’t an accident. This was for me. Moving quickly, I slipped into my sneakers, now broken in by weeks of wear, and headed for the door. Hannah's POV: I waited until the house fell completely silent. The old clock in the hallway ticked past midnight, each sound sharp against the stillness. Maria’s wing was dark; Lenora’s, too. The staff had gone to bed hours ago. If I was going to find out what those two were whispering about, it had to be tonight. I slipped off my shoes at the top of the staircase, the carpet cold under my feet. My heart thudded against my ribs as I crept down the corridor to Maria’s room. Even standing outside her door felt wrong—like stepping over a line that couldn’t be uncrossed.

Elena woke to the soft hum of the city far below and the unfamiliar quiet of the penthouse. The curtains filtered morning light into pale bars across the floor. For a moment she lay very still, letting the luxury around her be a sort of background noise she could watch without touching—pillows fluffed just so, a robe folded on a chair, a small card on the bedside table with Damian’s initials stamped in gold. A knock sounded at the door and Hannah slipped in like the efficient presence she always was—tablet in hand, posture precise, smile professional. “Good morning, Mrs. Kingstone,” she said. Her voice was calm, the kind of voice that made lists and departures feel safe.

The clock at the head of the room lit up part of the room with a ghostly light, showing 2:13 am on the clock face. There was no sleep at all. Pulling the pillow from under his head, he pressed it to his stomach, wrapping it around his knees. At least some illusion of a red-haired witch is nearby ... He had never fallen in love so quickly and painfully.

This woman's books are truly amazing. Then, after an hour long reading session, I find my eyes beginning to shut against my will, so I set down the book on the bedside table and shut off the lamp. ~ The next morning...
