Claire asked holding her face in her hands and crushing it together with her nails “If the Princess isn’t convince of your words….” The maid remembered what she was told, with a rush of hot tears in her eyes “Queen Amanda’s maid told me…” she was saying but the gush of blood that came out of her mouth almost staining Claire end her words as she gave up the ghost.

My nails were ruined and embedded with dried and skin from the scratches I gave the goons. My long black hair was matted and tangled. Some of it stuck to my head with dried blood from my scalp. My clothes were dirty and with the nasty bruises peppering my face and arms, I was a site to behold. Madam Claire walked up to me and bent in a squat beside me. She had Merra pour her a cup of water and she offered it to me. "Here, drink" I pushed her hand away and she splashed the cup of water on my face.

I screamed, feeling on the verge of losing my mind. Blood was dripping from my fingers, but I didn't even feel the pain as I gripped the blade. Mom didn't even glance at my injury. She nodded firmly. "Yes!"

“Then we’ll give them something else to fear.” Darius crossed his arms. “You’re not alone anymore, Ava. Let the gods tremble.” Marcus gave a slow nod. “Let them come.” The seer placed a gentle hand on Ava’s shoulder. “Then it begins. The countdown to the blood moon. The war of old blood and new.” Ava looked toward the dark sky beyond the chamber’s stone ceiling, her eyes steady, her voice clear. “Let the gods watch. I was born of dusk and twin blood… but I will rise as something they never foresaw.”

Her voice is low and quiet. She’s Amanda, 49 years old and our one and only maid, she’s been working with us for 5 years already. “Shhh... just go to Elizabeth’s room.
