My hands immediately shoot forward to cover my junk as I listen for where the sound is coming from.
"He protected me," the person crying sniffles, and I hear a feminine voice shush her.
"He died honorably. He was a good warrior. Loyal to his core. His family doesn't blame you, honey. Malone died because Luna Kandace couldn't handle her emotions. He protected you, and you shouldn't be crying. Instead, you should be honoring his sacrifice," Mrs. Marsh says to Melanie, and my head falls a bit.
My eyes close, and the entire night plays over in my mind. Melanie's shocked face. My mom's lunging wolf. Blood, quickly followed by death. It's all like a bad dream.
