Everything was falling apart, and not knowing where Marceline was made me lose control.
“Where is Marceline?” I asked again, this time struggling to keep my fear from showing.
Mary’s eyes narrowed slightly, confusion crossing her face. “She called me,” she said slowly, “and said she’s going on a few days’ trip. She asked that Roman should stay with me until she gets back.”
“Trip?” I repeated, stunned.
“Yes,” she said, looking at me with raised brows. “Didn’t she tell you?”
I stared at her for a moment, my mind spinning. Relief slowly started to wash through me, loosening the tightness in my chest. A trip. She wasn’t gone forever. She hadn’t left me.
