"Yes, of course. Thank you for showing me this room. It's lovely." Maria nodded, clearly relieved. "I'll leave you to your tea, then." Alone in the cozy space, Lyra ran her fingers along the spines of the books. Many were novels—classics, mysteries, romances. She pulled one out at random and found a neat signature inside the cover: ‘Elisabeth Blackwood’ Ryker's mother. Lyra replaced the book carefully and moved to the reading chair, settling into its embrace. The room felt different from the rest of the house—lived-in, personal, almost sacred.

Mary said quietly. Mary Carol Hart came from a very large family. She was the thirteenth child of her parents. She had loved her parents and seventeen siblings to bits. And until the age of thirteen, she’d thought they loved her too. She got to know how her parents…especially, her father really felt about her in the most unfortunate way. She always shuddered whenever she thought about that fateful day.

Mary Lin said with a sparkle in her eyes. “Here, young lady. You can take it and read it tonight but remember to return it to me.” Pushing the book in front of Quinlynn’s face, Mary Lin said, “Young lady, I wish you good luck! After reading this book, I feel you can be a great domineering CEO and capture your little lamb!” Quinlynn was overwhelmed by Mary’s enthusiastic behaviour. She could only spill out one word, “O-okay…”

I laugh at the clever word play. "Can we go in there?" I plead. Jack looks to where I'm pointing, "Of course." He smiles at me. I smile super hard and stare at the adventure ahead of me. We walk in and I look at a ton of cooking books, dog calendars and more. There's a book there called, Dear Nobody. It's a true story about a girl named, Mary Rose, who has to deal with her drug addiction and boys. The book interests me. I show Jack. "Out of every book in this store, you choose the one about an addict?" Jack raises his eyebrows. I shrug.

No folders. Just one black binder. The cover carried no title. No date. No label. Only a small handwritten note. For whoever finds this after I fail. Nobody breathed. For several seconds, nobody even moved. Then Vivian sat down abruptly. Mrs. Crawford crossed herself. Lucian stared. Kieran looked away. Only Mara reached for the binder. Carefully. Slowly. As though opening it might change everything. Perhaps it would. She lifted the cover. The first page contained only one sentence.

Both of us were soaked. Seeing that I had also been splashed, the villager hurried forward, intending to apologize. However, the moment he looked at me, he fell silent as he stared in shock. I paused for a moment before realizing something was wrong. My heart sank. Sure enough, Aldric’s gaze shifted back and forth between Rosalind and me. “The Princess’s mark on her forehead washed away with the water, but Lady Leanora’s makeup faded… and revealed a real birthmark! CHAPTER 1 — THE LATE RETURN I really shouldn’t have been there after closing time. The sign on the door already read “Closed” in elegant gold letters, and the lights inside Marcus Vale’s bookstore were dimmed to that soft amber glow he always left on for the night. I stood outside for a full minute, debating whether to just slip the book through the mail slot and run. But the book was rare — a 1923 first edition of The Great Gatsby with handwritten notes in the margins, and I couldn’t risk damaging it.

I never had the opportunity to meet the Arab who helped us, but I would be forever grateful that he helped us through such difficult times. “Hanna, can you stay in attendance while I go to the bank?” asked Mary waking me from my thoughts. "Sure!" I replied, placing the last copy I took out of the box on the children's bookshelf. I headed over to the counter as Mary exited the store. The bookstore was small and very well decorated. We were already close to Christmas and Mary was already starting to think about Christmas decorations. It was a magical time and it was all about books. It was when our revenue increased and that's why Mary asked for a loan from the bank, to increase our stock. She

Mary had had enough of the tour; it was only making her realize how poor she was in comparison to him, and she was just ready to sleep the day off. But she couldn’t resist the beautiful patio she had walked by earlier, so she walked towards it and sat down on the chair. A book had fallen off the chair, and she picked it up, taking an interest in it. And so, Mary dug into "Angels and Demons," the fictional book by Dan Brown. So lost was she in the book that she tuned out everything, flipping each page with urgency. The honking of a car distracted Mary, and that was the only time she looked up. The sun's intensity had reduced, and cool air was blowing.
