The sound filled the room. I was not trained to fight, but I had watched the soldiers on the floating city. I knew how they moved. I stepped inside her guard and swung the wrench at her arm. She did not pull back. She took the hit, her face twisting in pain, but she used her other hand to shove me into the wall. The air left my lungs. I slid down, my vision blurring. Please no!” the man begged. “He will talk. There is a reason medics aren’t in the field. They can’t be trusted to keep secrets under pressure. Now, kill him.” Marcus moved toward the medic, the limited space in the cell leaving him nowhere to run. The man’s pleas were cut off in short order when my assassin ripped his throat out, wrinkling his nose in disgust as the body fell to the floor.

We locked the dungeon’s door and walked back toward the bedroom, making sure to walk in the shadows as we did, careful not to be seen. We entered the bedroom and I couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief when we did, wrapping my arms around Iris and pulling her in for a hug.
