Charles raised an eyebrow. “Then why don’t you take it?”
Max went still, anger boiling deep inside him, but he said nothing.
Charles mounted his horse. “Use the left trail back to the house. It’s shorter. You wouldn’t want to lose more.”
With that, he nudged the horse forward and rode off in a burst of speed, leaving Max standing there, watching him with his face twisted in annoyance.
Max yanked off his hat and threw it to the ground, kicking at the dirt with his boot.
