I said, louder this time, but it sounded pathetic, like a kid begging a bully to stop.
“Alone?” His voice dripped with mockery. “You think you’re alone with that baby in you? Oh, yeah, I know about it. You and that billionaire bastard. You think he’ll keep you safe? You think he’ll want you when he finds out what you really are?”
“There’s no baby,” I snapped, my voice shaking. “You’re wrong. You’re always wrong.” But his words clawed at me.
Richard’s laugh grew darker. “No baby? Yet. But I’ll be there when there is. I’ll come for you, Megan. For you and that kid. You’re mine. Always will be.”
