No one did. Lysandra was hunched in the far corner, barely clothed, arms wrapped tightly around herself. Her eyes had lost color, once sharp and cunning, now glassy and vacant. The walls around her were streaked with blood and scratches, her nails torn and broken. When she saw Giovanni, she flinched. Actually flinched. She crawled backward, away from the light, into the shadows. “Lysandra…” I stepped in slowly. Giovanni placed a hand on my arm. “She doesn’t know you. She doesn't remember you, does not remember anyone. I don't even think she remembers herself. This is the best part about it being able to reshape them.”

“You’ve always been willing to do whatever it takes for the mission. No exceptions.” My chest tightened. I met his gaze head-on, jaw tight, shoulders squared. His eyes widened slightly as realization hit him. “Holy shit, Gavin… something is going on with you and Melanie, isn’t there?” I didn’t flinch, didn’t even blink. I simply held his stare, refusing to admit anything, giving him the same look I gave players who thought they could test me on the ice. Joe let out a low whistle. “Jesus Christ, Gavin. Please tell me you didn’t…” He ran a hand over his face. “This is bad. You know that, right? She’s the target’s daughter. If anyone finds out—”

Cordelia Patton glanced up and across the conference room table at Melanie Sorenson. The model was clutching a bunch of tissues in one hand, and holding on to her boyfriend Zane Evans’ hand with the other. Melanie was babbling – again, some more – about her stalker, and Cordelia nodded sympathetically as she typed away on her laptop.

Third Person's POV Isaiah was stunned. "Then what was the 'personal reason' you mentioned?" Camille didn't want to get into it. "Just some personal bad blood." "But—" "What is it?" Isaiah realized he had completely misunderstood; his quitting had nothing to do with Camille. He couldn't help but ask, "What kind of skills does Melanie have? I heard she hasn't finished her Ph.D. yet, is she—" "She hasn't just not finished her Ph.D. She only has a bachelor's degree. She never even went to grad school."

She pulled me into a tight hug without saying a word at first. “Annie, my daughter!” She said, pulling me even tighter to herself. “Mom,” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I thought I would never see you again.” She held my face in both hands and stared at me from my head to my toe. “You are different now. Why wouldn’t you see me again? What happened to you out there, Annie?” I was speaking to her in a very calm voice. The memories started coming again… the cold woods, the cave, the blue-eyed stranger, the night he f*ck*d me, the pregnancy, the birth of the twin Alpha pups, and how I lived at Kael’s pack.

she growled. Melanie rushed into the room, followed by two other people who I recognize but don’t know their names. “Is everything alright, Madam Helen?” Melanie asked in an enchanting voice. Madam Helen threw a hateful glare at her and she backed away. “Rosy is thinking of stepping down as the CEO of Connor Foods,” she said and my eyes widened. Melanie’s eyes widened too and she gasped in disbelief. Madam Helen walked past me, brushing me roughly against the shoulder.

She was determined to show him that she was a hardworking and reliable maid. But she wasn't just a maid; her primary duty was spying for Adrian; this was her true role. Melanie had been trained by Adrian to gather information about Evan's activities and report back to him. She was skilled at blending in and appearing trustworthy, all while secretly observing and listening to everything that went on in the household. Evan had no idea that his new maid was actually a spy as Melanie continued to carry out her duties with precision and discretion. Little did Evan know that the information Melanie was collecting would soon be used against him in ways he never could have imagined.

Melanie exclaimed, unable to keep the news to herself any longer. Her grandmother’s eyes fluttered open, and Melanie could see the tiredness in them. Her grandmother had been sick for a while, and Melanie had been doing all that she could to make her comfortable. She was glad that she could finally give her some good news. “What is it, my child?” her grandmother asked, her voice raspy and weak. “I got the job, Grandma! I got the job as the personal assistant to the deputy CEO,” Melanie said, her voice trembling with excitement.

Questions flew at her from all sides. She gaped, shielding the confused twins from view. How on earth had the press gotten wind of her return? After holding up a hand for quiet, she guided Sophie and Matt away through the throng with a polite “No comment for now.” Thank goodness her children’s faces weren’t caught on camera. She had managed to keep them away from her work life all these years. In the airport, Melanie overheard travelers whispering excitedly about her return. "That's Melanie Marshall, she owns that high-end design company in Dublin. Wonder what she's up to now..."

“Aren’t you really a mere passerby then? You’re just one of the many faces Ynes flips through. What’s the difference between you and a prostitute? You’re saying a man like you still need a reputation?” Alex’s expression was indifferent. “Do you know that there’s a crime called slander?” Winoa sneered. “I really don’t.” Melanie got impatient. “What’s the point of arguing with such insignificant people? Just kill them. Brat... I really want to thank you, though. Without you, Winona wouldn’t have become the Holy Maiden. So, at the very least, I’ll leave your body intact!” Swoosh! Melanie was a domineering grand elder, and she never spouted much nonsense. She went for the kill directly.
