“Mm hm,” I nodded focusing on the task at my hand.
She pushed her glasses up a little and extended her hand, “Hello! I'm Melinda. You can call me Mel,” she said with a sweet smile that showed her slight dimples.
Taking the pan out of the boiler, I let it sit and shook her waiting hand. “Ember. So, what did you mean by first-girl assistant?”
“Well, in his five years of business career, Mr. King Jr. never hired a girl as his assistant before, and the men hired never lasted long,” she gossiped in a hushed tone even though we were the only ones in the kitchen.
