Merlin The Series Novels & Stories

34 – Lauren Meridian Water The darkness felt like a cloak wrapped around my thoughts. The spell casting had drained me, not just physically but emotionally too. I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands resting on my knees, as I stared at the faint moonlight seeping through the window. Dark magic left marks on me—not visible to others but etched deep into my soul. A part of me resisted the shadows that lived within me. I felt like an intruder in my own body. Even as a renegade from the Kingdom of Umbra, I wasn’t a creature of darkness, and now my mind was at war with itself.

Ash looks down at his hands clenching and unclenching his fists. “My Gods.” Ash looks back at Merlin, “When he’s finished, he wipes himself off on her trousers, then slits her throat shallowly so she’ll die slowly.” He growls softly. “She, of course, had thought ahead since she didn’t trust the guy, and told her sisters to check on the safe house if she doesn’t come back by a certain time. The little girl’s eyes were wide, her small hand gripping Diana’s fingers tightly. “Merlin…” she whispered, her voice uncertain. Kelvin, on the other hand, had gone quiet, his eyes darting between the adults, sensing the tension even if he didn’t fully understand it. Diana didn’t look at either child. Her eyes were fixed on Merlin. “A mistake?” she repeated slowly, picking up on his earlier words. “You’re saying this is a mistake?” Merlin ran a hand through his hair, frustration creeping into his movements. “I didn’t say that,” he replied, his voice low. “I just... this is complicated.”

Gwen, entirely unfazed by the terrifying aura radiating from the Enforcer behind me, tapped her keyboard, pausing the video on a crystal-clear, high-definition frame of Arthur’s face—twisted in pure malice, his hands wrapped around my neck. "That's attempted murder," Gwen stated clinically, adjusting her glasses. "Along with aggravated assault, kidnapping intent, and a laundry list of domestic abuse violations. Paired with the medical documentation Doc Sheppard just emailed over to me, and the DCPD report Spider managed to get corrected... Arthur Verlaine's life as he knows it is officially over."
