Stopping, I bend down to pick up one of the wildflowers I often take whenever I take this path. I look up just in time to witness Mikhail stumbling forward, arms flailing to regain his balance as his boot catches the fallen branch. For a heartbeat, I’m too shocked to react—Mikhail, the strong, composed alpha, tripping over a simple branch? Then, a burst of laughter escapes me, surprising both of us. I can’t stop it, not even if I wanted to. The image of him, a man who never missed a step even when he was blind, tumbling over something as small as that, is just too much.
