I adjusted my backpack and headed up the extensive stairs that were in front of the large library. It was the biggest building in the area, and it held most of the pack’s history from the time the pack was founded. There weren’t just the normal books that you would see in a non-shifter library but a bunch of magical tomes as well. It was still pretty early but the librarian I knew opened at 6:00 a.m. for the local college kids who needed to prep for their early classes. Slipping in, there was a college aged she-wolf sitting at front desk. Leaning forward, I smiled at her.

“October 10th. Two thousand and one.” Miss Ada nodded, her fingers dancing over the keys. “I’ve already got the address for the pack house in the system. Just a moment, dear.” A small whir came from the side printer, and Miss Ada retrieved a fresh library card with Ryleigh’s name printed in bold at the bottom. “Here you go,” she said, handing it over. “You can check out five books at a time. They’re due back in two weeks. If we’re closed, there’s a drop box right by the front door.”

"I guess, although I never saw it whenever I visited them. It was up in the attic behind a stack of cartons. My assistant and the volunteers work on Halloween and I work a Sunday for each of them." Mike frowned. "The library is open Sunday?" "Only once a month." Her lips thinned. "We used to be open seven days a week but budget cuts did us in."

We're closing the library now," she said with a sympathetic smile. "If you plan to study all night, you'll have to come back on Friday. We're open 24/7 until exam season ends," she added kindly. "But tonight, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to leave."

Left with no choice, Hans continued with what he was doing and let Anthony in helping him. He was right, after all, having a helping hand would make it more efficient and less tedious for him. Joey, oblivious to the intrigue she sparked, walked up and asked. Melvin quickly snapped back to reality and replied, "Not too far, but showing up at this hour might not be convenient." Who would show up unannounced at someone's doorstep at 10:30 pm for something serious? "It'll be fine. Just take me there," Joey said. Niamh nodded. “Uh sure...will do that.” She said smiling. “Well, we open at 7:45, and close at 10. The staff gets an hour break from 3-4. Rest rooms are in the left corridor, storage room is in back and my office is right by the kitchen. We don’t serve to rude costumers, but no one here is rude so that won’t be a problem.” Linda said smiling, and Niamh smiled back.

Zeke went to the library before sunrise the following day. Not that it mattered. He hadn’t slept for... Shit, he couldn’t even remember now. The librarian seemed surprised to see him, but she didn’t comment when he walked over to a shelf to start browsing. The library was open twenty-four hours a day to allow students to keep up with their studies on top of their training schedules. It was the biggest structure on campus, with a vast atrium structure and several floors around it. It was usually full of students after training, but at this time, he had known it would be empty. Most people were still asleep or resting before the start of another gruelling schedule. Lucky bastards.
