My father had told me some wild stories about monsters that walked like men but had the claws and head of a wolf. He said they were the protectors of the swamp, of the vast expanse of the bayou. Creatures of magic and nature combined and bound into the soul of a man and a wolf, cursed and blessed in the same breath. He also had stories of old Creole witches who still lived in shacks deep in the vast depths of the swamp.

Suddenly, Adrian realized that these individuals indeed harbored ulterior motives. Adrian expanded his awareness, and the sight before him left him speechless. The entire hall was now teeming with an array of ghosts and monsters. Among them were towering old men with only one eye, lanterns swaying on a single leg, malformed boys with just one limb each, women clad in white exuding a bone-chilling aura, and skeletal figures draped in human skin...

Xavier wondered how they had not even caught her by her scent and then he quickly remembered that she was also a Damon and they knew how to hide their scents. “Should we check inside?” one of them asked. “I don’t think so,” another grunted. “I’ve heard lots of terrible legends about cabins in the middle of the woods. Most of them have been said to be possessed by evil witches and once you get in, you are cursed and you can’t get out again.”

Magnus shifts into his wolf and lunges at him as Alec grabs my arm and lifts me from the ground. He pulls me behind him and holds his hands out. I watch as black mist emits from his hands as he summons Grimghouls and Shadow reapers that crawl from the ground. The little orcs fight back against the minotaurs that have gained on us. Then to my horror, I hear Saskia scream. A giant worm opens its mouth. Its teeth are like that of sharks. It eats Saskia and burrows into the ground once again. ‘No!’ I scream.

Even with the sun warm on her back, she shivered. There was no choice but to step into that forbidding place. She knew it, and yet she couldn’t quite bring her feet to move- her sturdy leather boots stayed planted on the pale, spring-green grass like she’d grown roots. It had been a hard winter. She’d gotten skinny during the frozen months, and if she wanted to keep herself in coin and bread, she had to bring in game. She needed space to know the extent of her powers space too away from the goblins and wolves. This black, dark forest was the last place they might be. The chilling atmosphere sent shivers down everyone's spine. The people who waited in line screamed because they felt the presence of evil spirits. They quickly backed away. Sammy and Dom were also frightened, turning pale. They stood close to Wilbur and did not dare to move an inch. "My Ghost Formation Spell will take your life away," yelled Moose. Wilbur sneered and said, "Don't speak so highly of bad voodoo." Moose turned angry from indignation. He yelled in a rageful tone, "Die!" Countless ghosts appeared in an instant. They lunged toward Wilbur with sharp claws.
