You’ll never beat me.” Mira held her stance, even though her leg was slightly trembling. “This isn’t real.” Alexa laughed. “Isn’t it? You think you’re strong because you opened a portal? You think you’re ready?”

My voice trailed off. How do I confess the truth in a way that she would understand? She was too young to go through something as painful as this. “Mommy, you said you’re not going to leave me again.
