He must have done it while we were talking. Weston had cleared his schedule that evening to make sure he was home for dinner so we could spend some time together. To talk. We’d been working so hard on the project, and I totally forgot. It wouldn’t have been an issue, but our group of friends had been in the parking lot and we lost track of time while talking. “I’m sorry, Weston,” I said, and scrambled to pull out my phone. Six missed phone calls and three text messages. Shit. What a difference an hour made.

He said with so much certainty and I trusted him so it must've been something I overlooked on my part. We were still both confused so I decided to check our text chain and confirm if he sent me a text earlier that I'd missed. As soon as I clicked on his name in my chats, I noticed that he'd sent me the details but I genuinely didn't remember ever seeing the notification pop up and that bothered me slightly. "Shit, here it is. I'm so sorry man, my bad. How'd I miss this though?" I apologized while I also tried to read the message on my screen to get up to date with the new updated details I'd missed out on somehow.

I used the ten minutes that I gave her to round up a few things till I was distracted by a notification from my W******p. Meelah sent me a text that she was waiting for me outside so I had to leave because the time-sensitive work focus that I set had elapsed and it was time to go home. On my way out of the office, I realized that Meelah sent me a series of messages on my W******p at the time that I was busy working and I didn’t reply to a single one because I didn’t get notified about the message. The event already overtook the whole message thing, so instead of replying to her I just made my way downstairs to join Meelah at the parking lot and we were on our way home.

I couldn't help but wonder if my return after dinner had disrupted our usual routine or if something else was amiss. Minutes ticked by, and my message remained unread. The unease within me grew, and I couldn't help but grab my phone again, hoping for a response that would alleviate my growing anxiety. Yet, as I scrolled through my messages, disappointment settled in. There was no indication that Logan had even seen my message.

Maybe a text would suffice. “Good morning, Mr. Wright. I am sorry for missing your texts and calls. I just fell into a bad mood. I don’t think I really want to talk right now, so you don’t have to call. I will call you when I am feeling a bit better. Please don’t be mad at me.” Send.

We all have our own lives. Sometimes we are busy, and we don’t see each other as often as we used to. I mean, Henni and I have five kids now. Gabe is busy working.
