He came back a minute later with two textbooks.
“So,” he said, settling down next to me, leaving a careful, deliberate amount of space between us, “should we get started?”
I nodded, trying to ignore the flutter of nerves in my stomach. We opened our textbooks, and the weight of Romeo and Juliet rested on my lap like a sentence.
For the first hour, we grudgingly tackled the Shakespeare assignment. I had braced myself for a complete disaster, but to my surprise, Jude actually seemed… knowledgeable. He dissected the play, analyzing the characters and themes with an insight I hadn't expected. It was annoying, really.
