I looked up, puzzled—then stopped breathing. Three guys walked in, trays in hand, and the room felt alive around them. They were amazing, like they stepped out of a myth. All tall, looking sharp in a smooth way. Their clothes were neat except the one in the middle. His top button was open, dark hair falling over eyes like ice. He looked easy, like he didn’t care, like none of us mattered. His friends—one blonde, the other with red hair and a knowing smile—were right by him.

" I almost laughed at how ridiculous it sounded. I used to think Ophelia was just born rotten. As it turned out, Lauren wasn't any better. Like they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I shot Lauren a cold glance, then suddenly waved toward the distance, my voice bright. "Mom! You're here!" Lauren jerked her head up and followed my gaze. The operator who had controlled the memory extraction machine that day was striding straight toward us. I looked at the two of them, stunned speechless, and let out a quiet, mocking laugh. "Sorry. I already have a new family now. I have a new mom. If you keep bothering me, I'm calling the police."

Not for you, Carlo. Never for you.” Carlo looked up slowly, already knowing what was coming. “Fucking bastard,” he growled. “I knew you wouldn’t keep your word.”

Blake scanned my face and I could tell he wanted to say something else. “What is it?” I asked him, panicking. “Nothing it's nothing. Let’s eat". “Is she here?” I whispered as we walked up to the pit. “Oh god no" Blake laughed “they hate each other". “Not that much to have three kids" I muttered as Stacey waved to me.

She steps back, already turning away, but not before adding, “And you will be invaluable.” Mae looks at me then, eyes bright and overwhelmed. “So… fire, regret, and peace.” I manage a small smile. “Sounds about right.” As we shoulder our bags and prepare to leave, I can’t shake the feeling that whatever we were before—girls searching for answers—no longer exists. We didn’t just become monsters. We became something else entirely.

Not until he’d taken everything from her—the way she took it from them. He stood, buttoning his shirt, the reflection in the window showing a man who looked nothing like the one Zara used to love. That man was gone. What stood here now was something else entirely. A monster reborn. Outside, thunder cracked across the sky the sound of a promise breaking.

All I could hope for her to be happy and never come back to this place . I got up from the park bench . The early morning sun didn't help much with the cold either. I smiled at how terrified Belle was of giving her finals . She had clung on the phone call forever to find comfort .It felt good to know that the things that scared her were as simple as that. I picked up my pace to the haunted place I was forced to call home .
