Lena had always hated full moons. Not in a dramatic, horror-movie way. Nothing that obvious. It was quieter than that. A restless hum under her skin. Nights where sleep never came easy and every sound outside her window felt personal, like the dark was aware of her. Tonight, the moon wasn’t silver. It was red. She stood barefoot on the back porch of her rental house at the edge of town, arms folded tight against the chill. The woods behind her stretched deep and black, the treetops glowing faintly under the strange crimson light.

For the first time since the bond snapped, my lungs actually expand fully. No champagne. No congratulations. No political calculations. Just cold air, trees, and space. I straighten slowly beneath the moonlight. And finally, I can breathe again. The forest glows silver beneath the full moon. Frost clings to the grass while cold air burns in my lungs every time I inhale. Behind me, the ballroom still glows through the trees, music drifting faintly through the night like nothing catastrophic just happened inside. The bond pulls hard against my ribs—not gently or romantically, but violently.

I cock my head to the side and stare at her. She smiles. “I know, it is a mouthful. The mineral was a gift from the moon goddess herself to our pack hundreds of years ago. It’s originally from the Sea of Tranquility on the moon’s surface and has been buried deep within our territory’s soil ever since.” Ariana shrugs, “Having a scientist in the pack comes in handy sometimes, doesn’t it? Anyways, mom…dumb it down for us, alright?”

We turn at the same time to see Luka stepping out from the forest, his gold-tinted curls blowing about his face, his brown eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the river. He walks past, still not seeing us. Darius and I look at each other, then scramble up to follow him. Luka stops at the top of the river embankment. He passes his hand over his eyes. When he drops his hand again, he opens his eyes and they are a milky grey colour. The glow disappears from the sky and in the darkness a full moon rises. Not just any moon. I recognize this moon. So pale, so clear, it appears as if behind a layer of ice. The first full moon of the new year. The Wolf Moon.

Alex asked being confused. "Come on you should know it already. She was born in a Blue Moon. The purest blood runs in her veins. And there are very few pure blood people left. So when one can actually claim her in Blue Moon to mark her as his. But as she is already marked by another strong wolf who has the dark blood it would be easier for him to claim her and he doesn't need to do it in Blue Moon." Leonard's nose scrunched when those words got registered in his brain. But now that she already has a mark Lycan needs to wait for Blue Moon.

Shama sat beneath the moonlit sky, the cool breeze caressing her skin. She gazed up at the full moon, its silvery glow illuminating the vast expanse of the night sky. Myriad stars twinkled around it, like diamonds scattered on black velvet. Shama wondered which celestial body she most resembled: the lone moon, shining brightly in the darkness, or the countless unknown stars, twinkling beside it, their light unseen by most.

“Brenna, let me know tomorrow if you would like to present yourself before the Moon Goddess as a potential Luna. The full moon is in a few days, so we must prepare.” The Blood Moon was coming, too. But I still had a bit more time. As if reading my mind, she turned and smiled. “The Blood Moon is in three months. Fear not; you have plenty of time to get to know the Alpha before.” I nodded, tilting my head to the side. “And if I reject him as my Mate?”

Then he extends his left arm through the bars for me to hold and bring to my lips, I hover above the inside of his forearm, waiting for our lunas signal, she nods and we say the final words together. "With this mark, I ..." But before either one of us can finish the final vow, a bright light pours through the tiny window, somehow filling the room, we all freeze, bathing in it. "A blue moon," Kay whispers in awe, staring into it and then back at us. "A blue moon bond!" She gasps, "Oh, thank you goddess," she praises. "Luna? What's happening?" I ask, unmoving.

While the plant provides power for most of the state, it does not require that many employees to run it so the town remains small. Amaris threw off the plain white sheets and rolled out of the twin bed that lay nestled against the wall and in the corner of the room. When she was a child, Amaris would push the bed back against the wall every night so that she could lay at the foot of her bed and look out her window at the moon. There was nothing more beautiful than the sight of the full moon in all her glory.
