We crashed through the undergrowth, following Sylvia to a small, ancient stone shrine hidden in a clearing.
Inside, on a simple altar, sat a milky white orb, the Moon Priestess’s sacred orb.
“Touch the orb!” Sylvia urged, her voice dripping with false panic. “Its purity will break the curse on the necklace!”
It was a lie. I knew it was a lie. The orb was the final trigger. But Thorne, desperate, carried me toward it.
“No…” I tried to say, but the word was a gasp.
His hand, holding mine, reached out. My fingers, still clutching the burning iron charm, brushed against the cold surface of the orb.
