I hurry back to the bed again and take my mother's hand. "Ma, wake up." I plead. "Ma, please wake up." She does not move. But... "Her hand is warmer." I say, hope a precious precarious thing in my voice. It is still nowhere near werewolf temperature but it is no longer cold as death anymore. "She is getting better." I say, my voice holding tentative happiness despite what is happening outside. No matter what it is, I know I can handle it, but I cannot lose my mother. Not like this.

But my heart, that stubborn, human piece of me, felt a pull so violent it nearly brought me to my knees. --- ## Chapter 35: The Maternal Malice "Mom?" The word felt like a shard of glass in my throat. She stepped forward, her movement fluid and graceful, a stark contrast to the jagged, mechanical world outside. She looked healthy. The hollow cheeks and the grey pallor of the hospital bed were gone. She looked the way she did in the old photographs Aris used to hide in his desk.

My mother said as I could see the little spark of crazy in her eyes as she stood up. She reached across the table, her fingers brushing against my cheek in a gentle caress. The touch was delicate, almost tender but it did little to ease the chill that had settled in my bones. There was something deeply unsettling in the way her voice, moments before so cold and sharp, shifted into a soft, motherly lilt. The contrast was jarring.

The wound looked angry, red and wet and torn, the stitches pulled apart like they’d given up. My stomach turned. My mother inhaled sharply. Then she placed her hand over it. I expected pressure. Pain. Maybe another scolding. Instead, Warmth bloomed beneath her palm. Not the warmth of skin. Something deeper. Something impossible. I sucked in a breath as a soft light flickered from between her fingers. Faint at first. Then brighter. A pale glow poured over my wound like moonlight turned liquid. My eyes widened. My whole body went rigid. “Mum…” I whispered, voice trembling. “What, what is that?”

“I just want to be where he is. Even if it’s hell. I don’t care. I just want to be there.” My mother’s fingers threaded through my hair, slow, soothing, like she could untangle the panic with her touch. Her thumb brushed the back of my neck the way she used to when I was sick as a child. It should have calmed me, but it only made the ache worse, because her warmth wasn’t his.

The monster staggers then she attacks the other one and stabs the key onto its stomach then she kicks backward the other monster on her back. "Too many monsters..." She muttered but then, they all disappeared. Her mother is walking towards her and hugs her. "You did great, my lovely daughter. Always remember that next time, this won't be easy anymore, understand?" Alexis nodded. "I understand, mom. Don't worry." Alexis answered then she hugs her mom lovingly. ••••• END OF CHAPTER 20. •••••

Cracks spiderweb from the edges, flowers wilting, trees crumbling, sky graying to ash. No! Please, no! I scream it silently, helpless as it all unravels. But then, before it collapses entirely, a warmth blooms in my chest—faint, gentle, enough to shatter me. Not pain or fear, but comfort. Don't cry, Lumi's essence brushes mine, her final whisper. I'm content to have seen you again at last. The warmth shifts, flowing downward toward my abdomen, her last strength enveloping the baby like a mother tucking in her child one final time.

My body feels warm, and I feel almost like I’m floating. I close my eyes, and I see my mother, in her wolf form, standing at the mouth of her ancestral cave. There’s a soft glow around her fur, and she smiles at me, her eyes kind and loving. “You can do this, sweetheart,” she says, and I know she’s right. The labor hurts, but I make it through, rocking along with the motion of the waves and the swinging of the lifeboat. At times I have to bite down on my own paw to stay quiet, not wanting to be discovered by anyone who might still be around.

I knew it was time for me to go. I seemed to see my own reflection in Mom's eyes. She moved her lips with great effort, and I could make out the shape of her words. She was apologizing. But I shook my head. Belated regret was useless. In my next life, I hoped never to meet such parents again. My form slowly dissolved, and consciousness slipped away. … When I regained awareness, I seemed to be in a warm embrace. I opened my eyes to see Seth's loving gaze looking down at me.

"No… No, she'll definitely come back!" After leaving the Sharp Teeth pack, I arrived at the Black Rose pack, which was several times larger.
