I studied her for a moment, seeing a side of Millie I hadn’t noticed before.
She was serious, determined, and for the first time, I realized that maybe she understood the gravity of the situation more than I gave her credit for.
She wasn’t just some girl caught up in a fake marriage. She was my partner in this.
“You’re right,” I said quietly, moving to sit beside her. “We are in control.”
She gave me a small, tired smile. “Good. Because if one more person calls me the ‘drowning model,’ I might just throw myself into the pool on purpose.”
