Maybe I can read something to pass the time and occupy my mind for a bit. 0 I read through their titles and they definitely have a favorite genre. ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, ‘The Woman in White’, ‘The Maltese Falcon’. I sense a mystery theme here and I wonder if it’s Stefan or his wife that’s the fan. I push them open, praying no one hears. I step inside with a deep breath. My eyes move along the shelves. Scrolls, ledgers, old volumes stacked orderly. My fingers trail over each, as I try to make sense of which would be close to what I am looking for. My heart beats louder, until finally. There. Hidden behind a heavier book, lies a ledger bound in cracked leather. My pulse races as I pull it out, clearing of the dust. I flip page after page. Each page talks about past murders and deaths records of different kinds, some with number markings, some with letter markings, some with no markings at all and then... spiral markings.
